Expat communities united on “Glocals.com

GenevaOnline goes “glocal” (Globals & Locals), extending its community
of expats & locals to Lausanne, Berne, Zurich and Basel.

Glocals.com” (a combination of the words Globals and Locals) is a new website for newcomers and expatriates, as well as well-traveled locals living in Switzerland’s major cities. The website evolved from “GenevaOnline”, a website set up to help new arrivals in Switzerland make the transition. The site allowed members to meet new people in their area and learn of local activities and events. In addition, it enabled them to familiarize themselves with the Geneva and Swiss system.

GenevaOnline was launched 18 months ago by Nir Ofek and his brother Oded. Ofek was also behind the very popular Sindy (short for “Geneva Social Syndicate”) club that organizes parties and events for young professionals in Geneva.

The GenevaOnline community already counts around 12,000 members representing 91 different countries. Due to such a rapid success, Ofek and his brother decided to “extend the concept to other cities that attract lots of expats”. It has led to changing the name to “Glocals.com”, and now expanding into Lausanne, Berne, Zurich and Basel.

Ofek says that if Glocals is as successful as “GenevaOnline”, why not implement the concept in even more cities across the world?”
